Open source alternatives

Open source Typeform alternatives: Formbricks, OpnForm, HeyForm and LimeSurvey

Four open source form and survey builders compared as Typeform alternatives: conversational forms, logic, integrations, licenses and what each one keeps for paid plans, checked November 2026.

Typeform made forms feel like a conversation, one question at a time, but its free plan limits responses, and every answer is stored by Typeform. The open source options below can be self-hosted, so responses stay in your own database, and most of them also offer hosted plans if you would rather not run a server. They cover three needs: product feedback and surveys, everyday forms, and research questionnaires. We checked each license and latest release on November 5, 2026.

Quick comparison

Builder License One question at a time Logic Best for

OpnForm AGPL-3.0, enterprise code separate Optional Yes Simple forms with unlimited submissions
HeyForm AGPL-3.0 Yes, conversational Yes The closest Typeform look and feel
LimeSurvey GPL-2.0 or later Optional Advanced Research, academic and multilingual surveys

Formbricks: surveys inside your product

Formbricks is built for product and customer research. Besides shareable link surveys and email surveys, it can show in-app and website surveys to specific user groups without changing your application code, which is how many teams run onboarding, churn and satisfaction surveys. It has a no-code editor with many question types, best-practice templates, team collaboration and integrations with Slack, Notion, Zapier, n8n and more.

Formbricks is AGPL-3.0; features under its ee directory need an enterprise license key, and its SDKs are MIT. Version 6.1.1 shipped on October 22, 2026. Choose Formbricks when you want to learn from users inside your app or website.

OpnForm: unlimited forms without the fuss

OpnForm is a straightforward form builder with unlimited forms and submissions, many input types including file uploads, conditional logic, email notifications, captcha protection, form analytics, embeds and integrations with Slack, Discord and webhooks. It can also let AI assistants draft forms through an MCP server.

OpnForm is AGPL-3.0, with enterprise features under api/app/Enterprise under a separate license. The repository moved from a personal account to the OpnForm organization, and version 2.8.0 shipped on October 28, 2026. Choose it for contact forms, sign-ups, applications and other everyday forms.

HeyForm: conversational forms like Typeform

HeyForm is the closest to Typeform’s style. It builds conversational forms, surveys, quizzes and polls with many input types, including picture choices, date pickers and file uploads, plus conditional logic, URL redirects, custom themes and CSS, analytics with drop-off rates, CSV export, and integrations through webhooks, Zapier and Make.

HeyForm is AGPL-3.0 and version 3.0.6 shipped on November 1, 2026. Choose it when the respondent experience is the main reason you used Typeform.

LimeSurvey: the veteran for serious surveys

LimeSurvey has been developed since 2006 and is used by universities, research institutes, governments and companies. It handles unlimited surveys, dozens of question types, complex branching and quotas, multilingual surveys, anonymous responses and statistics, with a focus on privacy and GDPR compliance. It is GPL-2.0 or later, runs on PHP, and is also sold as a hosted service. It is less pretty than Typeform but far more powerful for research.

A note on OhMyForm

OhMyForm was a popular open source Typeform alternative, but its repository was archived in October 2024, and its maintainers now recommend Formbricks instead. Avoid it for new projects.
